Lets Go Tigers

JA Newsflash

"The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault." - Ty Cobb

The Game That Counts PDF Print E-mail

This was the first game of the season for the Detroit Tigers in 2008, the game that counts (we don't really count the first 7, do we?). 4 key points tonight:

  • The Tigers got some big hits tonight that were absent until now.
  • The bullpen pitched well.
  • Clete Thomas' bunt.
  • Pudge Rodriquiz singled for his 2500th hit.

Opening day is like no other. You've been waiting for months in anticipation, waiting to watch the new guys on your team -- waiting for a game that counts.

I started my day off with a nice breakfast, French toast. I normally don't eat breakfast but today was special. After I gobbled up the last bite I decided to turn on the television and watch some baseball, pre-game -- none, hmm. Well it was only 8:30.

Al Kaline ('55, '56)
Mickey Mantle ('52, '55)
Stan Musial ('43, '44)
Vern Stephens ('42, '44)
Bob Feller ('39, '40, '41)
Ted Williams ('39, '41)

STRIKE TWO -- THE TIGERS CONNECTION: Within the short list, Stark mentions Al Kaline. Stark reports that Kaline said it doesn't see that happening, because Cabrera is way better than he was.
